Inquiry

I am curious to why there is a teen gap in cancer care and if I could come up with some sort of health "campaign" or wellness screening for all teenagers to undergo.

Some questions I have:

1. (a) Why havent young adult cancers made the strides common in other age groups and what can be done about it?

(b) How much of it is biological? psychocial? financial? health care related? insurance? invincibility?

2. (a) What are some proposals for a program for some sort of teenage screening?

(b) Could I incorporate something into this spring's wellness day program?

3. (a) What other proposals have been made about my topic?

(b) Were they effective? successful?

4. (a) If I were able to find an adequate program, how could other people find out about it? I know I could incorporate it with my school, but how could it reach a larger audience?

(b) Would the program be expensive?

5. Who could I interview about this? Which hospitals would allow interviews? Would I interview pediatrics and then the regular hospital? Maybe someone with St. Jude.

6. Which cancer screenings could be best used for my idea? Compare those to older and younger patient screenings. Would they be any different?

Journal Entry 3

A new idea Mr. Engholm helped me with is, besides proving that the teen gap in cancer care is in fact a problem, is to come up with a proposal for a health "campaign" or wellness screening for teenagers. I need to think of more ideas but a good one Mr. Engholm had would be to have some sort of project that could be used in the Wellness Day program in the spring. Afterwards, I could interview students and take surveys on everyones opinons about the project.
